About us
The „Sunčani most“ Integrative Kindergarten was founded in Mostar in 2002 as a project of the Austrian non-profit organisation called „Diakoniewerk“. An integrative kindergarten implies the inclusion of a small number of children with developmental difficulties in a regular preschool programme education with children of the same age without any developmental difficulties. Each year the Kindergarten gathers some 40 children aged 3 to 6 years from the whole area of Mostar. The children are divided into two groups, namely „Ribice“ and „Bubamare“. Two kindergarten teachers work with each group at the same time. For children living in remote parts of Mostar free transport to and from kindergarten is organised on a daily basis. Children are accompanied by a kindergarten teacher.
For children with developmental difficulties free specialist support and individual work with a speech pathologist and an occupational therapist are organised during their stay in the Kindergarten.
The „Sunčani most“ Kindergarten is one of the most shining examples of sound and prejudice-free work with children in post-war Mostar. A team of young qualified persons are making efforts with their professionalism and through dedicated work to eliminate all potential barriers that the spirit of the times and everyday politics place before the children of Mostar.
In addition to being a unique example of multiculturalism, for it is attended by children of all ethnicities, the „Sunčani most“ Kindergarten is the only preschool institution in Mostar which consistently implement modern and innovative approaches in work with children with developmental difficulties. In this way it is implementing in practice the inclusion which in other kindergartens usually remains an empty word.
